Sawyer’s Complete Water Treatment System provides a safe and highly effective way to filter water with the bag to bag gravity flow system — no pumping, no waiting, no chemicals, and no worries. The system comes in two versions: SP161 with one 2-liter bag and SP162 with two 2-liter bags (one for dirty water and one for clean).

The fast flow hollow fiber membrane uses pore sizes so small that sediment, bacteria, protozoa, cysts, and other contaminants are removed to provide you with the highest level of filtration available. T

he filter removes 99.99999% of all bacteria (like salmonella) as well as other harmful bacteria which causes cholera and E. coli and 99.9999% of all protozoa such as giardia and cryptosporidium — exceeding EPA guidelines for removal rates.

Ideal for backpacking, paddling, group camping, and emergency preparedness, the filtration process is practically hands free. Just hang the system from a tree or any source off the ground and watch gravity do all the work. In as little as 1-1/2 minutes you will have 2 liters of safe drinking water.

You can even filter on the go by converting the clean water vessel into a hydration bladder for a pack with the included drinking tube. This filter does not remove dissolved solids, including chemicals and heavy metals.

The SP161 includes one 2-liter grey reservoir (marked DIRTY) and the SP162 includes two 2-liter bags (grey marked DIRTY, blue marked CLEAN). Both models include the Sawyer PointONE Hollow Fiber Membrane Filter, faucet adapter, drink tube, quick-release hose adapter, and detailed instruction book.

They’re backed by a manufacturer’s limited lifetime warranty. Since 1984, Sawyer Products has offered the best, most technologically advanced solutions for protection against sun, bugs, water, and injuries — everything from first aid kits developed for wilderness to point-of-use water filters that filter contaminated water to levels cleaner than U.S. bottled water.

Throw away that old hand pump We’ve only used this once for a 3-day backpacking trip, but my group was so impressed that everyone bought one when we got back into civilization (even thought we almost always backpack together and have no need for more than one). One friend said, “is it wrong to fall in love with a water filter?”

Used on a 4-day backback trip to Kings Peak – High Uintah Mountains I bought this on a recommendation from a guy at work and was not disappointed. I field tested this system on a 4-day backpacking trip to Kings Peak at the end of July this year and it worked great. It really does filter 2L of water in less than 2 min. My only complaints would be:
